Potential Legislation that effects Landlords, Evictions and Limits Rent Increases

April 29, 2021, the House passed SF1470 (link) on a 70-62 vote. The House version of the bill would delay most evictions, foreclosures, and contract for deed terminations until 60 days after Minnesota’s COVID-19 peacetime emergency ends. It would also establish a cap on rent increases for 12 months. The Senate version (link) of the bill, which is more Landlord friendly, previously passed on a 46-21 vote, would void the current eviction moratorium and provide guidelines to phase it out.   The two versions will be sent to conference committee to be reconciled, if possible, before being sent to the Governor.
